Donald "Duck" Dunn was an incredible session musician for STAX - played with 60s cats like Elvis, Otis Redding, Albert King, Sam and Dave... Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Freddie King, Eric Clapton and later - around 1980 - with the Blues Brothers. He was also a record producer and songwriter and in the R&R HOF with Booker T and the MGs. He was playing in Tokyo with his guitarist buddy from the MGs, Steve Cropper, and was found dead after performing his fifth double show there with him in May of 2015. A huge loss. Hmmm... I may have just talked myself into doing a DDD show....

Melody Maker was the longest-running music weekly and one of the world's earliest. Founded in 1926 by Lawrence Wright, edited by Edgar Jackson their parent company in 2000 merged with sister company, IPC Media, and shut down the Melody Maker in favor of the merged mag, New Musical Express. Sad, kinda like losing the Phoenix, or selling the Globe....or taking away music writers' jobs....
