Theremins on Parade Leon Theremin was the Russian inventor in 1920 of an early example of an electronic instrument, which was named after himself (although it began its life as an "etherphone"). You may not touch it...but you may gesticulate before it. You can thank the theremin for the otherworldly sounds you hear in both "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Whole Lotta Love." It was rarely used in the '60s and '70s in music, but we are digging up most of what's out there. This show is dedicated to fellow WMBR jock Jon Bernhardt, purveyor of the theremin to the shores of "America's Got Talent" and White Castle hamburger ads. (Ugh...discovered errors in back announcing...mea culpa!)
