Pedal Steel Songs in the '60s (Part 1) Pedal Steel is found everywhere in song... but not so much in the '60s, outside of the traditional country music realm. Until, that is, late in the decade. It was then that folkies and rockers raised their heads above the parapet and started utilizing the instrument, with Gram Parson and his bands leading the way. We will surely throw a handful of traditional country crooners in the mix, but the concentration will be on the late '60s, before pedal steel exploded in the repertoires of rock bands in the '70s. Rhodes, Emmons, Drake, Young, Keith, Green, Myrick, Rugg...these masters of the pedal steel guitar will appear here over and over.
