"According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 1983 to present the number of unionized jobs in the United States has decreased by over 60%. It's no coincidence that it coincides with the largest inequality gap between the rich and the poor."
All work is honorable
Yet art is just a job
Let me spend my paycheck on a beer
No heroes, no leaders, no artists, no gods
I'm a worker, you're a worker
Wouldn't you like to be a worker too?
This one's more about American-rugged-individualism than the collective power of labor as a counterweight to rotting global capitalism ... but it rocks, so okay!
In 2010, 29 miners were killed in a coal dust explosion at the Upper Big Branch Mine in WVa. Between 1995 and 2010, the Mine Safety and Health Administration levied over $2.2 million in fines against Massey for more than 3,000 safety violations. Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship served exactly one year in prison, emerging to launch a political career. Blankenship currently holds an $80 million fortune.
This one is about what the press used to call the Reagan Democrats, a group of conservative blue-collar white men who enjoy being used and abused by the GOP. Today they are the Trumpists and QAnon adherents whom the New York Times tells us we should seek to understand. Uncorrect. We have to defeat the men who exploit them and make their lives better despite them.
this song has nothing to do with actual labor, but the essence of owning a business that produces things is the ability that grants you to make money while you sleep ... I simply observe this fact here, rather than making a sweeping judgment,. That's why I'm not really a socialist. Shhh...
Putzfrau means "cleaning lady" in German, and revolution is, well, you know ... but in fact I have no idea if this track (or the previous one, for that matter) has anything to do with labor. That's my cue to kill the theme and just play some fuckin' punk rock for the rest of the show.
Release #9 of 2021. These guys are my rock and roll heroes this year. Shit. Also this is a welcome exception to the proliferation of emails about old releases and tee-shirts that now clog my inbox on Bandcamp First Fridays. I liked it a lot better when it was all new releases.
Le mois de Septembre va commencer, un peu de spleen c'est la fin de l'été,
Mais pourquoi mon ventre se serre à la rentrée,
Dans les yeux me poussent des orgelets comme chaque année ...
