Zeal & Ardor is Manuel Gagneux, a Swiss-American with a unique perspective. His sound stems from two thoughts: Christianity was imposed upon American slaves, just as it was imposed in Norway. Also black metal in the 90's grew as a rebellion to monotheism. Their first release "Devil is Fine" seeks to answer "What would satanic spirituals sound like if American slaves had rebelled in the same way?" - adapted from various online blurbs Here's a double dose of Zeal and Ardor, kind of a 'then and now' thing. I'll follow up with "Tuskegee" (tus-KEE-gee) after this off the new one out this month.
I could have sworn this was also on the Femmes' 1994 compilation "Add It Up" but maybe that's because Add it up was the first show I ever went to without my parents so I was suddenly into shows and the femmes had my attention in 1994 when the Crow came out.
album is an obvious shout out to the Ramones' hit by the same name on their 1978 release 'Road to Ruin'... (or is it?). They're both rad too so they have that in common.
kinda weird for lrc definitely influenced by my experience with electronic music but this is such a cool weird female fronted band which I can get psyched about and they practice in New England, having members from the Body, Full of Hell and Lingua Ignota. This is likey too abstract for Ron. Sorry, Ron; I'll play more punk next time :)
